Halwa Hamo, wife of Rufat Alromi, with their first son, Imad. At the time Halwa was pregnant with their second son. They are Syrian Kurdish refugees from Al Hasakah, Syria. The family was sheltering at Harmanli Camp in Bulgaria. During the winter of 2013-2014, more than 1500 mostly Syrian asylum seekers were awaiting registration in subpar conditions, some living in tents, while others are crowded into unfinished buildings lacking sufficient hot water, electricity and food. Together with her husband and son, they moved to Germany after they were granted travel documents from Bulgarian authorities. After 8 months in Bulgaria they received travel documents and moved to Germany. They are currently living in Haan where their children are attending school.
