Cristina, 19, who like many Romanian homeless youth is addicted to huffing Aurolac paint, climbs out of the underground canals where she lives with her cousins and other youth. "It's hard to live down here, we don't have water to wash ourselves and sometimes the nothing to eat," she says. Many of the homeless youth were raised in Romania's vast orphanage system and ran away when they were old enough to manage on their own.
