Dana, left, with her 2 year old daughter at Parada, a drop in center for homeless and disadvantaged youth. Like many of her generation, Dana was abandoned as a child, raised in an orphanage and become a mother in her late teens. After her drug-addicted husband died and she was left homeless, her two elder children were moved to foster care. She currently cares for her 1.5 year old daughter and lives in a rented room in a poor area of the city. Thousands of minors and young adults live in Bucharest's vast system of underground canals used for heating, water and sewage pipes. Many were raised in Romania's vast orphanage system. Addiction, especially to huffing metallic paint, heroine and other injected drugs is widespread.
